A notepad calculator that keeps your working on the screen, and updates the answers when a number changes.
Two people at 5,000 each comes to 10,000. Change it to three people and the total becomes 15,000. Try changing the numbers in the board below.
You lay out cards with numbers or formulas on them and connect them to each other. A whole calculation laid out this way is what CalcAnyway calls a board. A board can be saved, or sent as a share link.

Scaling a recipe
From 4 servings to 6 is a factor of 1.5, for every ingredient.
Average speed for a round trip
120 km in 3 hours is 40 km/h.
Mean and median
Drop one score from 62 to 0 and only the mean moves.
Concentration: diluting and mixing
20 g of salt in 180 g of water is 10%, not 11.1%.
How it differs from a calculator
- Calculations stay put — starting the next one does not wipe the last.
- Change a number and the related ones follow — anything calculated from it updates by itself.
- Charts move with them — select the cards you want to show, press "Visualize", and pick from candidates drawn with your own numbers.
- Save and share — keep a board, or send it as a URL or an image.

What you can do with it
- Recalculate under new conditions — change a headcount, a unit price, a rate, and everything downstream of it updates.
- Work backwards — select two cards and "Solve for a target" appears: name the monthly payment, get the loan amount.
- Follow the breakdown — not just the total, but which card each number came from, drawn as lines.
- See it as a chart — pick numbers and get comparison, share and trend candidates drawn from them.
- Convert units — length, mass, volume, area and time, with the conversion factor left visible in the formula.
Where it fits
- Money — trips, buying a home, running a car, raising a child: working a total out while the conditions move.
- Math — visualize functions, areas, and ratios.
- Science — unit math, physical quantities, correlation of experimental data.
- Life planning — long-term simulations like education funds and retirement.
There is a growing set of worked examples — real boards you can open and edit rather than build from scratch. The study ones are in English; the money ones stay in Japanese, since the costs and the rules they describe are Japanese.
Card reference and templates
CalcAnyway has 58 kinds of card. The card reference says what each one takes and shows, in the same groups as the app's "Add a card" list. The templates — shapes of calculation with no purpose decided — are shown there too, next to the cards they use.
Privacy
The numbers and boards you type are kept in your browser and are not stored on our servers. Sharing means making a share link or an image yourself.
About the name
— Calc anyway.
Put a number down and move it before the conditions have settled. The anyway is there for that — trying something rather than thinking it all the way through first.
